Walgett Shire Council advises Lightning Ridge residents E-coli has been detected in recent water samples. Consequently, Council is asking residents to boil their tap water before drinking.

Council staff are working to identify the problem, and the reservoir has been super chlorinated. Water mains will also be flushed around town for the next couple of days.

Follow-up testing for microbiology will be carried out on Wednesday and residents will be notified of these results once Council receives them.

In the meantime, cooled boiled water should be used for drinking, cooking, washing raw foods, making ice, pets drinking water and cleaning teeth. Children should take bottled or cooled boiled water to school.
